Venus might shine again ...Fingers Crossed!!!

Hair Pampering is on the cards once again…..Had done chemical straitening around 3 years back and it was indeed a great experience until the original hair started to grow back….

This time after lot of thinking , I have decided to get Keratin treatment done… have a Saturday morning appointment….more than excited to see the results….I just hope that the results are good…..You know these treatments are pretty costly and they need to turn out good….Fingers crossed.

I would definitely come back to this post to post ‘before’ and ‘after’ pics of me  J

Mrigtrishna

Day and night whenever I close my eyes – I see the streets of the busy bazaar I grew up in….whenever I lie on the bed I see the house I grew up in….whenever wherever I go….the memories don’t leave…I close my eyes again and again..rub them …wash them
Sometimes relish the rich memories…sometime try to run away from them …but no use…

It has been exactly 13 years since I left my house….is that not enough time to put dust on old memories….I think not…..the verandas run infront of my eyes….the kitchen aromas fill up the nostrils….the sunshine from my window warms me up...
Nothing has changed ….it is all exactly the same…at least in my dreams….

aaaahhh!!! Yes  Dreams it is !!! I am trying to catch water with both my hands….running behind a mirage ……..

'Mrigtrishna’  ’ we call it in our language…….
this is what it is ….

Late night movie on weekday!

Discipline is the word that you should never forget if you are working full time which a kiddo at home...

Monday -
A late night movie on Monday night followed by chatting till 4 am could screw up your entire week....I just screwed up mine...

Wednesday -

Feeling Blue..

It’s not a great Day!

Daughter is having fever…has not eaten anything since morning except tid bits…Just a viral nothing serious though as per the Doc.

Had a driving test appointment – Could not clear the drive test.

Even though I have come to a stage in life when what people think and talk about me does not really matter neither do such daily chore type tasks…but still somewhere within the heart failure always pinches no matter how trivial it is :-)

May be it is the way we were brought up !!! Or maybe it is just Monday Blues….:-(

A litti chokha Sunday

Last evening was wonderful...!!!

There was Litti-Chokha, Dahi-vada and Rasmalai for dinner…Freinds were over for dinner(they were actually over for cooking help as well adding up to the fun) and the meal was lovely with candle lights and  Kumar Sanu music in the background…

Mitthu dear asks Mommy dear before going to bed : “Mumma can we have these parties daily…??”
That means she had fun too…  J

Liiti is wheat flour dumpling with filling of spicy Sattu mix…back in my home it was more of sattu paratha than litti….but both have more or less the same taste …

Sattu paratha has been my favorite since childhood and continues to be….This always reminds me how Nani would sit on the kitchen floor with all her ingredients for mixing up sattu masala and I was always available at the kitchen door to do some tasting effort…
Nani was a pro at sattu masala …she had some magic in her hands and we always loved her food more than Mummy…Magic of love…
Once the masala was ready and tasted by almost everybody in the house J the parathas would be made (We call it Makuni in our part of the world) ….the smell of the Makunis filling up the house on chilly winter evenings…

Wish we could relive our lives just once again…aaahhhh

American 'Kaamwali Bai'

I did not want to write this post in the beginning for a simple reason that it is too basic a topic to discuss...
However I could not stop myself and so here it is something as typical as “How to use a Dishwasher"!

I have spent my lifetime in India and the one common thing despite all diversity in the country is the easy availability of household help...we are all so used to it...
Bartan bhanda to kamwali bai hi karti hai....and these ‘bais’ are so versatile!!Apart from being a great household help at a relatively low cost, they form part of drawing room conversations, are status symbols and one of the biggest reasons to set your mood for the day on or off.....we all know how bad a day goes when our ‘kaam wali’ does not turn up....

So when these lazy spoiled Indians come to US, what do they do for their daily chores? Those sophisticated ‘NRI’ ladies (pun intended) who would not even wash a cup in India are now spending quarter of their day doing dishes....chhh...chhh....chhh L

Uncle Sam is not that bad though J . We do have dishwashers installed in each apartment unit ...so where is the problem?? I talked to a couple of people and here is what they said:
Friend’s wife: We have only glass dishes at home, they might break in DS so we don't use.

Bachelor Friend (spent couple of years in US) : I have never used it in last 5 years...and anyways I use the space for storing utensils...It's better I do the dishes by hand.

Another friend’s wife: My husband told me on Day 1 that DS is not effective, so I never tried it...

Aunty: I cannot spend that much time arranging the dishes in DS and then taking them out. It is way faster to do them by hand.(I have no comments on this).

I am not commenting on anybody else's lifestyle but I just want to put forward my point. When there is a machine available for our help in the house then we should at least give it a try.
Have we all not started using Washing Machines finally? And just think if DS was not useful, why it would have been installed in each apartment unit across the country.

Below are the steps to be followed when using this ‘American Bai’.

1.      Use only detergents made for DS. Do not use any other dishwashing liquid howsoever good it is. It i readily available in all small/big stores.
2.      Remove the leftovers from dishes and keep them soaked in the sink after use. Don’t we all do this in India also?
3.      When you are ready to wash utensils, load them in the DS. Make sure the heavy utensils go in the bottom tray.

4.      All utensils should be upside down. Plates should be vertical. Spoons/forks in the holder.

5.      There is a slot in the door for the detergent. Put the detergent there.

6.      There is an option for dry heating. This ensures that post wash, the dishes are dried up with heat.

7.      That's it close the DS and go for a nap.
8.      dhadam dhadam dhadam....depending on the brand the DS cycle will go on for 30-45 minutes…. Don’t worry ur glass wares will not break .
9.      Voila..omg...u come back after a nap and spotless clean sterilized dishes are ready.

To mere dost logon cheezon ka fayeda uthao aur apne naazuk haathon ko kisi aur kaam mein lagao(subject open for imagination ;-) )….

If there are thoughts coming with regards to running cost, it is same as running a washing machine….rest of the calculation can be done….
Would like to hear the other side of the story if any .

PS: Is katha ke sabhi patra kalpanik hain. No offense meant to anybody.

Balcony Pleasures!!

Dining Table goes for an outing !!

My ideas of happiness do not sync with most people...sometimes very simple things in life make me very happy...at other times even the best of this world does not do the trick....
So here it goes...I get bored with the furniture and decor of the house very easily...not that I am a decor or cleanliness freak...but the monotony of the same setting freaks me out...!!

For husband, cleaning over the weekend would mean real cleaning as any level headed person may think of....doing the bedsheets, vaccuum , bathrooms etc etc. For me it would just mean moving around the furniture....

So this is how the story turns out...this weekend the bechara dining table was the bakra..
I moved it out in the balcony to create extra space in the house and utilize the nice weather outside...
Hubby dear who usually co operates was totally unsupportive of this idea for a very valid reason (this could completly spoil the dining table wood)...His idea(agreed valid) was  to buy outdoor dining table if I want one..but I am the impatient self...dimaag mein idea aa gaya to wait nahin ho sakta hai...

So finally this is what it meant...and you know what...it was awsome to have morning breakfast with the excellent views and fresh morning breeze....
That was Plain vanilla cake , Garlic bread and Papaya shake for breakfast . Simple and easy but tasted awsome because of the ambience....and did I tell you the background music of birds chirping around :)

That is kiddo doing some colouring outdoors..
and the evening with scented candle..and the latest novel..to me it is total bliss (as of Now)

To those of you have a levelhead like hubby dear and are worried about spoiling the dining table in Sun or Rain.....let me tell you again...I bet this cannot keep me entertained for more than a week...2 weeks max..:-) :-)

What makes you Happy??

Dorae-mania

Daily Routine -
Daughter(As soon as she gets up in the morning):
               Mumma Doraemon..lagao na plz..
Mom:      No Beta subah subah nahin....go and brush your teeth , you will get late for school.
Daughter: Doraemon Doraemon Doraemon.
Mom finally gives in ...and the blue cat comes back again on the television with his dumb freind Nobita..

Don't our kids deserve much more than the repeated telecasts of these transalated Japanese/Chinese series. And to add to that I am never able to understand how could we keep on showing a film to our kids day in and day out...whose hero is a lazy failure who has this robot cat which has short cut for everything in life....

I feel it is a slow poison overpowering our kids psychology...there is no idol ..no role model...that shows them how hard work pays off....all they know is that doraemon gadget....Is there nobody in this country to sensor the content of kids channel....or are they all also sleeping like Nobita?

I remember growing up we were never allowed television on early mornings except on few Sundays...but did we not enjoy more then...??
I would so look forward to the monthly kids magazines that the newspaper wala will throw in on the 1st of each month...Champak, Chandamama, Suman Saurabh..then we even had comic books for Ramayan/Mahabharat/Panchatantra/Chacha Chowdhary/ Billu/ Pinky as well ...
But none of them meant sitting endlessly infront of the idiot box.

Probably it is a easy way out for us as well....khud facebook check karna hai to bacche ko doraemon dikha do...
Thoda effort to apne side se bhi lagana hai yaar....atleast I need to do that ....well before I am also Doraemonised...

The beginning

Here I am finally ...!!!!

This is just a platform to put down my thoughts...about the ordinary things that come across our day to day life...

But is it not these ordinary things that make life so special?

I would be using this place to flush out my feelings...

कुछ शिकायतें ...कुछ किस्से ...कुछ नुस्खे ...कुछ सवाल ...!!!
